The Martian, by Andy Weir

Neil and Buzz walked on the moon in 1969. But humans never left Earth orbit again after ‘73, which sucks. We should’ve been on Mars by now.

In Andy Weir’s first novel, we are. But it goes horribly wrong for astronaut Mark Watney. He’s accidentally stranded on the red planet - alone. If he can figure out how to survive for almost two years - with disco music for company - he might get rescued.

This book is smart, technologically fascinating, and damned funny. My favorite book of the past five years. Will the movie with Matt Damon measure up? CAN it?
